We live in a world of “shoulds”….
- you should watch what you eat
- you should go to the gym
- you should balance your chequebook
- you should clean the house
- you should take care of that family member
The problem with shoulds is that they put pressure on you. They are a heavy load “weighing” you down. You are wearing your shoulds on your hips, on your thighs, and on your belly.
Even though we’ve been taught that we should do this, and should do that… this mentality is actually not helping anyone. It’s especially not helping you!
I’ve recently been focused more on being kind to myself. When I recognized that I’m thinking I should do something, I stop. I say “Colleen, you don’t need to do that. Your only job is to be kind to yourself and love yourself.” I find when I practice extreme kindness towards myself that my world just falls into place. Everything that needs to get done gets done. It’s almost magic!
I’ve even stopped setting goals. This has been my latest practice of extreme self kindness. I’ve let go of setting goals around my weight, money, and relationships. Instead of setting goals, I’m focused on love. I’ve found that love has given me freedom.
I thought I wanted to look a certain way and have a certain relationship and have a certain amount of money in the bank. But what I discovered was freedom and peace of mind, which was what I was truly looking for.
I want to invite you to let go of the shoulds in your life. Let go of counting calories. Let go of dieting. Let go of exercising. Let go of every other should that’s “weighing” you down.
It’s time for you to be free.
